Ruthie Ackerman is an award-winning journalist focusing on Africa, women and politics. She has special expertise on refugee issues and post-conflict environments, and is a senior fellow at the World Policy Institute. She is the founder of the non-profit organization Ceasefire Liberia.
Her work has been featured in Salon, The Nation, The New York Times, World Policy Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, Forbes, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Hartford Courant, Women’s Media Center, CSIS Policy Forum, Recessionwire and Women’s E-news.
Ms. Ackerman is the founder of Ceasefire Liberia, a blog-bridge for Liberian youth with the mission of promoting citizen journalism and creating a dialogue between Liberians around the world.
She was the recipient of a Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting fellowship in 2007 for which she produced and directed a short documentary on the rehabilitation of Liberian youth that premiered on Foreign Exchange. Her reporting from the project was also featured in The Nation, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and CSIS Policy Forum.
She earned her MA in the Department of Journalism at New York University, and her BA in Psychology from Boston University.
