Daniel Möckli is a Senior Researcher at the Center for Security Studies (CSS), ETH Zurich. His main fields of expertise comprise Swiss foreign policy, European-American Relations and the Middle East, and European foreign and security policy since 1945.
As head of the Strategic Trends Analysis unit (www.sta.ethz.ch), he is in charge of strengthening the think-tank pillar of this university-based institute. In this capacity, he runs a team of Political Analysts and engages regularly with the Swiss and international security policy community and media. He is the editor and frequent author of the CSS Analysis in Security Policy, a monthly policy brief (published in German, French, and English) that targets policy makers, the media, and the wider think-tank community and seeks to foster a strategic culture in the Swiss political arena.
A complementary annual publication series called Strategic Trends has been launched under his responsibility in February 2010. Daniel was a Visiting Fellow at the EU Institute for Security Studies in Paris and is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London. He received his B.A. from the University of Kent at Canterbury and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Zurich.
Daniel has extensive media experience, including al-Jazzera, Haaretz, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Radio DRS (Swiss national radio), and World Radio Switzerland. He comments and gives interviews mainly on Swiss foreign policy and on the Arab-Israeli conflict.
