Dr. Paul Dixon is a Reader in Politics and International Studies at Kingston University, UK. H
e is an expert on the conflict in Northern Ireland, as well as the challenges of humanitarian and military intervention around the world, particularly in the context of post-war Kosovo and Sri Lanka.
He recently published the second edition of Northern Ireland: The Politics of War and Peace and has carried out extensive research on the Northern Ireland conflict which has been published in journals such as Political Studies, Review of International Studies, Political Science Quarterly, Terrorism and Political Violence and Political Quarterly.
In total he has published over 30 articles and book chapters including articles on British public opinion and military intervention, the Kosovo conflict and bipartisanship and Sri Lanka. His current research interests are British and Irish politics, conflict resolution theory and counterinsurgency and he has extensive media experience. Dr Dixon has recently edited a special issue of The Journal of Strategic Studies on ‘Hearts and Minds: British Counterinsurgency from Malaya to Iraq’ based on a conference co-convened with the Royal United Services Institute. He is currently completing a book with Dr Eamonn O’Kane, Northern Ireland Since 1969, to be published by Pearson. Dr Dixon is also writing a book on the Northern Ireland peace process.
He has published articles in The Scotsman, The Belfast Telegraph and the Belfast News Letter and Fortnight Magazine. Dr. Dixon has appeared on BBC Newsnight, The Politics Show, BBC News 24, and also on BBC Radio including ‘The Document’ and the PM Programme. He has also been interviewed by CNN and Sky News and quoted in the New York Times, and The Los Angeles Times among others.
