Henry Patterson sq Henry PattersonHenry Patterson is a professor of politics at the University of Ulster, where his chief research focus is on the contemporary history of Northern Ireland. He is the author of Ireland since 1939: The Persistence of Conflict (London, 2007), and Unionism and Orangeism in Northern Ireland since 1945 (Manchester, 2007).

He recently completed a major Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) project on Ulster Unionism and the Orange Order, and his current research project is on the experience of Protestants in border areas of Northern Ireland during the Troubles. A related research interest is the ‘war’ between the IRA and the security forces in border areas.
