Franz Brugger is an expert on the relations between Islam and the West, particularly in Europe and the Middle East. He has worked with the UN Alliance of Civilizations and has undertaken extensive academic research on politics and religion.
Franz Brugger has worked with the UN Alliance of Civilizations, addressing youth and extremism and with the International Press Institute, covering restrictions on press freedom in response to international terrorism. Currently, Mr. Brugger is working with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization UNIDO in Vienna. At the UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development he is developing trainings for young researchers and professionals.
Mr. Brugger holds an M.Phil. in International Relations from the University of Cambridge, UK and a Master’s degree in Political Sciences from the University of Vienna, Austria. His research has focused on the history and nature of political Islam and the role of secularism and modernity in Europe and the Middle East.
