Dr. José Carlos SendÃn is a specialist on media and international co-operation. At present, he is Assistant Professor in Communication Sciences Dept. at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Spain), where he teaches master degree courses on Media, Globalization and Development, as well as Communication Theory for undergraduates.
Dr. SendÃn´s work spreads over social issues in connection with communication and the media sector. He specializes in co-operation and communication in Africa South of the Sahara and on migration trends in Spanish society.
Before teaching at the university Dr. Sendin has been working over the last 20 years in several media (Ranking, Servimedia, ABC), and especially in the NGO sector, dealing directly with co-operation in Sub Saharan countries (field experience in Eritrea, Cameroon, Benin, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Togo, Madagascar, Namibia, Angola, among others).
Dr. SendÃn collaborates and consults for Casa Africa (official public body of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the relationships with African continent), Casa Africa. He was also commissioned by Spanish Ministry of Labour and Migration for the elaboration of the Practical Guide for Media Professionals: Media Treatment of Migration, Oberaxe. Dr. Sendin has been a media practitioner, and also has been interviewed many times in Spanish media (Radio Nacional de España -RNE-, SER, Servimedia, Europa Press, etc).
He holds PhD. on Communication Sciences, a degree and Master on Journalism, and an Advance Studies Diploma on International Relations and African Studies. His research concretizes in several publications: more than ten books and book chapters, articles in academic journals and dissemination articles. He also intervenes periodically in master courses, congress and seminars organised by academia and official public bodies (Universidad Complutense, Universidad Autónoma, Instituto Ortega y Gasset, Canary Island Government, Casa Ãfrica, Ministry of Labour and Migration) focusing on Africa representation in media, as well as migration trends and their treatment by Spanish media.
