Jean-Philippe Béja is a specialist on Chinese domestic politics at CERI. His research focuses on social and political change in China, and the Chinese political system.
Dr. Béja holds degrees from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (IEP), the University of Paris VII (Chinese), the Centre de Formation des Journalistes (CFJ), and the University of Liaonning (Chinese Literature). He earned his Ph.D. in Asian studies from the University of Paris VII.
He is the former scientific director of the Centre d’Etudes Français sur la Chine Contemporaine in Hong Kong (1993- 1997), and the former editor-in-chief of China Perspectives/Perspectives Chinoises. He continues to serve as a member of the editorial board, and is also an advisor to the China Institute of the University of Science and Technology and to the China Observatory in Lisbon.
Dr. Dr. Béja is a member of the CERI Transversal Project ‘Beliefs and Practices of Democracy.’
