Global Expert Melody Moezzi delivers social media training
Global Expert Melody Moezzi addressed 25 young journalists on the use of social media to promote cross-cultural understanding at the Jordan Data Bootcamp in April.
The training, held at the Jordan Media Institute in Amman, brought together a team of experts, editors and reporters from 11 countries in the MENA region to discuss reporting across cultures.
Moezzi is an Iranian-American writer, commentator, author, attorney, activist and the Executive Director of the non-profit organization 100 People of Faith. She is a Global Expert for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and has provided commentary for media outlets including NPR, BBC, CNN, Al Arabiya and The Huffington Post among others.
Moezzi’s training focused on the scope and limitations of social media.  The presentation conveyed social media’s potential to facilitate open cross-cultural communication, but also to promote intolerance and misinformation when used incorrectly.
Participants were divided into groups and asked to develop social media strategies for various global issues, with the end goal of promoting intercultural dialogue.
The Jordan Data Bootcamp was delivered by the UNAOC and Google in partnership with the World Bank. This Training followed a previous UNAOC-Google training which took place in Tunis in November 2012.
